Profiled steel sheet cladding being fixed to the frame of an industrial building

Metal construction

Metal construction in Morocco

Beyond the frame: envelope, floors, circulation and metalwork. The complete building, from one company.

A steel building is not just its frame. Between the portal frame and the finished building there is the envelope, the floors, the access and the metalwork — packages that, split between contractors, create interfaces and delays.

We handle the lot, from design to erection.

What we supply

  • Steel structures — primary and secondary framing, strengthening
  • Cladding — profiled sheeting, composite panel, double skin
  • Roofing — profiled sheet, insulated panel, rooflights
  • Floors — joists, chequer plate, composite decking
  • Staircases and walkways — access platforms, maintenance gantries
  • Handrails and metalwork — edge protection, doors, frames
  • Modular units — plant rooms, site offices

Envelope: what drives the choice

Comparison of envelope solutions
SolutionThicknessWhen to use it
Profiled sheet TN400.63 to 0.75 mmCladding, unheated building
Profiled sheet TN50 / TN750.63 to 1.00 mmRoofing, longer purlin spacing
PU composite panel30 to 100 mmThermal requirement, food processing
Mineral wool panel50 to 150 mmFire and acoustic requirement
Chequer plate3 to 8 mmFloors, treads, platforms

Our process

  1. Survey and brief — area, height, use, operating constraints; site survey where there is an existing building
  2. Engineering — load take-off, RPS 2011 seismic check, envelope selection
  3. Drawings — frame, cladding and roofing setting out, junction details
  4. Workshop fabrication — cutting, drilling, assembly, welding
  5. Protective treatment — hot dip galvanising or paint system according to exposure
  6. Frame erection — lifting, bolting, alignment
  7. Envelope — cladding, roofing, flashings
  8. Finishes — metalwork, handrails, doors, handover

Junction details: where leaks start

On a steel building, defects almost never appear in the middle of a sheet. They appear at the junctions: ridge, verge, flashings, roof penetrations, cladding to roofing transitions, cladding feet.

These details need proper accessories and setting out anticipated at design stage, not improvised on site. That is the difference between an envelope that lasts ten years and one that leaks in the first winter.

Floors

Two families. Joists with decking — IPE or UPN joists and chequer plate — are demountable and quick, suited to plant platforms and storage mezzanines. Composite floors combine profiled steel deck with an in-situ concrete slab: heavier, but better stiffness, better fire performance and better acoustics.

For storage buildings specifically, our steel warehouse page sets out the spans, clear heights and the seven factors that actually drive the price.

Applicable standards

  • RPS 2011 — seismic verification
  • Eurocode 3 (EN 1993) — steel structures
  • EN 1090-2 — execution, EXC classes
  • EN ISO 1461 — hot dip galvanising
  • ISO 12944 — corrosion protection

Framework applicable to the trade. Certifications provided on request.

Frequently asked questions

Metal construction: your questions

How is this different from structural steelwork?
The frame is the load bearing structure. Metal construction covers everything else: cladding, roofing, floors, staircases, walkways, handrails, doors. On a building the two are handled together — which is precisely what removes the interfaces between packages.
Single skin sheeting or composite panel?
Single skin profiled sheeting suits unheated buildings: dry storage, shelters, agricultural sheds. Composite panel, with a 30 to 100 mm insulating core, becomes necessary as soon as there is a thermal or acoustic requirement: food processing, occupied workshops, temperature controlled warehouses.
Do you build the floors?
Yes: steel joists with chequer plate decking, or composite floors combining profiled steel deck with a concrete slab. The choice depends on imposed load, span and fire requirements.
Can you work on an existing building?
Yes: extension, additional storey, new mezzanine, frame strengthening, roof replacement. These works need a site survey and verification of the existing structure before any design begins.
